My Ascend Story – Coach Stacey Frazier

By Stacey Frazier, MBA Prep 2008 & MLT Ascend Coach

Growing up, I was lucky to have a lot of informal mentors. My mother had a strong group of girlfriends, they called themselves “The Organization.” These women were presidents at banks, VP’s at corporations and leaders of non-profits. Having access to these powerful women shaped me and gave me courage to go after my dreams. I know not everyone has that, and that’s why I want to be a role model for other young people that look like me.

I’m an MBA Prep alumna and having a coach in my corner was the most impactful resource to get through my application process. My coach knew me and pushed me to be authentic. She would say, “These schools aren’t looking for cookie-cutter. Be you, tell your own story. Your story is enough.” My coach was right. I take that advice with me and share it all the time.

Giving back to MLT Ascend and MBA Prep is nothing compared to what I received. I know how important it is to have a coach cheering you on, or knocking you upside the head! I know how valuable it is to have someone walking the road beside you, so you don’t have to walk it alone.

I take joy in seeing how Shanice, my MLT Ascend Scholar, has grown. I’m proud of how she’s gone from being a shy young girl to a blossoming young woman. I love witnessing Shanice’s determination. Her saying, “I’m going to stick this out, I’m going to give this a shot,” is the most important thing. It’s amazing to see how far she has come. Being a catalyst for Shanice’s transformation is all the reward I need.
