MLT MBA Prep Fellow Alexandria Lafci’s New Story Charity Selected by Start-Up Funder Y Combinator
By: Shartoyea Scott Dixon, Director, MBA Prep Program
Congratulations to one of our exceptional MLT MBA Prep 2016 Fellows, Alexandria Lafci, for being selected to participate in the prestigious Y Combinator entrepreneurial development program!
Alexandria is co-founder of New Story Charity. Founded in September 2014, New Story leverages technology for social good. Using their “transparent” crowdfunding platform, the New Story community has been able to fund new homes for families afflicted by the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. New Story allows people to meet families in need and make contributions to the construction of their homes. The organization then provides donors with “transparent” video proof of how their dollars are being used by showing the exact family selected living in their new home after construction.
Last month Alexandria and her team learned that New Story had been chosen to participate in the competitive Y Combinator start-up program. Y Combinator provides seed funding for start-ups and gives founders access to invaluable coaching for three months leading up to Demo Day. At Demo Day start-ups can present their products and services to a specially selected audience of investors as well as the elite of the technology world.
Participation in Y Combinator is highly sought after in the tech world and very competitive.
Comment below to wish Alexandria and New Story luck on this trajectory-changing opportunity for a life-changing company!
