Program FAQs
What is SELF?
MLT’s Senior Executive Leader Fellowship (SELF) empowers MLT alumni to identify and pursue their full potential as current executives and leaders. The 12-month program enables Fellows/participants to define their “leader impact vision” in the context of their current scope of influence, responsibility, and financial capacity. With that greater clarity, Fellows develop an executive-level roadmap and concrete action plan to realize that vision. Each fellowship experience is highly-customized to help senior leaders understand their desired outcomes and design a roadmap to achieve it. SELF participants will access exclusive resources, such as in-depth assessments, full-access executive coaching, Agents, and multifaceted peer forums with senior MLT alums.
Who is eligible for SELF?
The SELF application is open to MLT executives with senior leadership experience or comparable scope of responsibility. You must be an MLT alum to apply and at least two years removed from the last MLT program you completed.
- C-level corporate experience (particularly CEO, CIO, CFO, CTO, CMO, COO, GC, and CPO positions);
- VP/SVP/EVPs 1-3 levels removed from CEO in public companies, or at private companies that have scale;
- Founders/Managing Partners/Directors of LLPs, LLCs, or mutual funds with annual revenues of $5M or higher; or;
- High-ranking military/government leaders or national and/or statewide elected or appointed officials
Why should you consider SELF?
Having reached senior leadership roles, many find themselves wondering “What’s next?” SELF is designed to help high-impact, senior executives, who have organizational influence and financial security, access to hyper-relevant resources—executive coaching, career agents, and elusive network connections—aligned with their personal leader vision. Additionally, participants will connect with a cohort of peers hoping to make an impact in their companies, families, and communities.
Who supports the Agent experience?
MLT curated a group of leaders from the top organizations in sports, tech, media, consulting, wealth management, executive search, philanthropy, and board access. You will select 1-2 Agents to help actualize your most accelerating needs.
- Content and thought-leadership
- Business, wealth, and tax needs
- Board and network strategy
- Donor, org, community impact
- Online and executive presence
Who supports the coaching and leader development experience?
Berkeley Executive Coaching Institute (BECI) enables leaders to develop their authentic selves, live their values, and make a positive impact in their communities and the world. The team—comprised of certified executive coaches in leadership, communications, design thinking, and innovation —is grateful to deepen its relationship with MLT. The BECI-designed portion of the SELF program is designed to take leaders on a journey of self-discovery and leader development by combining 1-on-1 executive coaching with group coaching sessions and learning workshops.

How is SELF different from MLT’s Career Advancement Program (CAP)?
Although CAP and SELF serve the MLT community at the executive level, the programs are distinct in three very important ways:
- Audience – CAP is for aspiring senior executives, who have been identified as high-potential leaders by their employers. SELF is for MLT alumni who have already reached executive or C-suite roles, and Fellows may even be CAP alumni.
- Outcome – CAP focuses on helping participants reach senior leadership positions or secure a promotion within the companies at which they are currently employed. SELF programming is personalized to help alumni from any MLT partner, background, or program achieve their individual goals—whether personal, civic, or professional—at the executive level.
- Sponsorship – CAP Fellows must be sponsored by their organization in order to participate. SELF involvement is driven by the alum. Any alum can apply, pay, and commit to participate in SELF.
What are the program benefits?
- Executive coaching with global experts of color (monthly sessions)
- A career agent focused on sourcing target councils, business engagements, or executive roles
- Moderated forum groups with peers
- Intensive assessment and leader visioning workshops
- A roadmap and in-depth action plan to achieve leadership vision goals
- Specialized training, such as media training, board preparation, and wealth management
Is there a cost associated with the program?
MLT, private donors, and partnering organizations are underwriting a significant cost of SELF.
Fellows can expect to pay:
- $7,950 upon acceptance, either in one upfront payment or two installments
- Compass Week travel and select meals
If attending the optional Reunion Weekend, Fellows are expected to cover lodging, travel, and select activities, given their interests and availability.
