Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) Receives Renewal $500K Grant from NBA Foundation

Washington, D.C. (March 5, 2024) — Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) is excited to announce that it has been awarded a renewal grant of $500,000 from the NBA Foundation. The NBA Foundation, in partnership with the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), recently distributed $8.66 million among 46 organizations, with MLT being one of the proud recipients.

“We are thrilled and grateful to receive this grant from the NBA Foundation,” said Ana Marte, Advancement Officer of Corporate Philanthropy at MLT. “The NBA Foundation’s commitment to fostering community growth and providing resources to young people and organizations that often lack support is truly commendable.”

Greg Taylor, the executive director of the NBA Foundation, expressed his hope for the impact of these programs on young individuals, emphasizing the importance of creating diverse career opportunities. With the generous support of the NBA Foundation, MLT aims to address the challenges faced by Black, Latine/Hispanic, and Native Americans in the college-to-career transition.

“A college degree is failing too many Black Americans, with 60% of Black 4-year graduates starting their careers unemployed or in jobs that don’t require a degree,” stated Cristal Baron, MLT’s Head of Advancement. “With the NBA Foundation’s investment, MLT is leveraging successful strategies from the sports industry to empower our fellows to secure high-paying career path jobs.”

Since its inception in August 2020, the NBA Foundation has been dedicated to supporting Black youth and uplifting youth-serving organizations across league markets. The recent announcement of the 11th round of grants brings the total amount distributed to over $100 million, impacting the lives of more than 240,000 Black youth through 337 grants to 227 non-profits.

As MLT continues to advance its mission of empowering young leaders, the ongoing support from the NBA Foundation plays a vital role in creating economic empowerment in Black communities.
